Last night (New Years Eve), I had two good friends over for dinner. We enjoyed dinner and sat around and talked about everything from politics to sex. It was nice to talk trash with the guys. It was fun. Then we watched TV. That got us talking about music from the 80's. We flipped around the digital cable music channels and listened to different songs from the 80's. Then we watched the ball drop in Times Square. At midnight we toasted the new year with sparkling cider and shared our resolutions for the new year. We all agreed that 2004 couldn't be any worse then 2003. In talking with friends and family, I've found that 2003 wasn't a good year for many. Here's hoping 2004 is a great year for everyone!
Today I got my hair cut. Below you can see a picture of me. What do you think? Well, I think it looks pretty good. (I know I need to shave. I'm off so why shave? hehehe) Although, when the lady held the mirror for me to see the back of my hair, I realized my hair was getting a little thin on top. As I approach my 40th year I guess it can be expected that my hair won't last forever. My grandfather on my mother's side was completely bald and I hear we get our hair genes from our grandfathers on our mother's side. I have brothers who are loosing their hair much more then I think I am. I mean, it's not like I'm bald or anything. It just looks a little thin on top. And I guess the shorter I get it cut, the more you can see it. Oh well. I won't be a comb over kinda guy or a hair piece kind of guy or even a guy who takes drugs to keep what he already has. I know I'm getting older and I can live with the changes that occur as I age. Plus, I still have a full head of hair…as you can see in the picture. I really shouldn't worry about it, right?
Merry Christmas Eve. I'm not religious AT ALL but I do like the traditions of Christmas. I'll miss not being with my family this year but that's my choice. I have been lazy all day today. I'll I've done is watch movies. Being off for two weeks at this time of the year gives me time to be lazy, watch a lot of movies, and lay around doing nothing. Today was one of those days. My car hasn't moved from it's spot for more then 24 hours. I've only left my condo to get the mail. I can really be a slug sometimes. Nothing wrong with that. I enjoy it.
Movies I've watched today:
A Christmas Carol (love this version)
Miracle On 34th Street (another great movie)
Meet Me In St. Louis (is this one gay because of Judy Garland?)
The Bishop's Wife
Now one movie I watched this evening that was amazing was “Winged Migration”. I think it might have won an Oscar. I'm not sure. Anyway, it was a great documentary on migrating birds. The visual images were amazing. I don't know how they filmed it but it was spectacular. If you haven't seen it, you really should. While watching it I felt as though I should be sharing the experience with someone. I was wishing that I was still with Shawn. I know he would appreciate the music and images from this film. Maybe he's seen it, I'm not sure. I also think that the holiday is making me think more about him and wishing we were still together. I wonder if he thinks about us like I do. Enough about him. I'll get over him eventually. Despite what I wrote in an earlier posting, time does heal all wounds.
My mother took me out to dinner tonight. We went to Red Lobster. After dinner she said she wanted to drive through the neighborhood and see all decorated houses. So we drove all through her neighborhood and looked at what seemed like thousands of houses. Then we went to her house and turned on her lights so we could see what it looked like in the dark. Here's a picture of her house with the lights on. I think she needs more lights but I don’t want to be the one to put them on. he he he
Things to remember:
1) A broken heart almost never heals.
2) Family is very important.
3) Never go to a holiday party where you only know the hosts.
Woke up early this morning and looked out the window and saw that it had snowed. It looks like it snowed a good 3 inches. Now it has turned over to rain and it’s nasty. I’d have taken some pictures but it looks nasty and I don’t think it will make a nice picture. I’m spending the day watching movies. I’ve watched “In The Good Ole Summer Time”, “The Shop Around The Corner” and now I’m watching “A Christmas Carol”. I love watching old movies on a cold Sunday. I’ve also had some hot chocolate and shortbread cookies. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. 🙂
Yesterday I went to Frying Pan Park. The sun was out but it was still quite cold. There was a good layer of snow on everything. It was left over from the weekend snow storm. I took several pictures of the farm. Here are just a few I thought I’d share.
I thought this barn looked beautiful in the snow with the sun shining on it. I think a larger picture would give you a better idea of how beautiful it was.
This is a picture of the pardoned Presidential turkey from Thanksgiving. This is where the pardoned turkeys go to live out their lives. From what the docent told me, they don’t live very long.
I thought this truck looked really cool. You be the judge.
Tomorrow it’s back to work. I hate Mondays. I shouldn’t, but I do. I have a lot to do at work in the next few weeks before the holidays. It will be a very busy time. I’m sure I’ll get through it just fine.
Historical fact: Today is the 62nd anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
It snowed last night and it’s still snowing lightly this morning. I slept well last night. But I did have a wild dream. I might have to write about it sometime. Here are some photos from my balcony showing the snow. We only got about 2 or 3 more inches. Shouldn't keep anyone from getting where they need to go.
We had our first snow fall! It snowed 2 inches over night. While it looked nice when I first saw it, I realized it would be messy very quickly. We had a two hour delayed opening today so I didn't have to go to work as early as I usually do. That was nice. But the later I leave for work, the longer it takes to get there and with the weather the way it was, it took even longer…cleaning off the car, etc. And the nice snow had turned into sleet and rain by the time I left for work. Now it's nasty out. We are supposed to get another 3 to 5 inches tonight into tomorrow. Since tomorrow is Saturday, it won't matter how much we get. I got three new DVD's in the mail yesterday so I can spend the day watching those if the weather is as bad as they say it's going to be. I should have taken a picture of the snow but didn't think about it until now. Maybe later.
