We previously had plans to go to dinner at Jill’s house but they had to cancel because Mr. Dail was out of town. So during the day we just went shopping. My husband bought some spring decorating items. We then went to Total Wine and bought a case of wine. We had a coupon and a gift card to use. We got some nice wines.
As we usually do we had crackers and cheese before dinner. I took a picture.
I don’t understand today’s walking. I walked 2.92 miles, 10,570 steps and I still wasn’t able to close the exercise circle on the Apple Watch. Sometimes I think he doesn’t keep track of my exercise very well. Oh well.
The screw extractor tool came yesterday but Valentine’s Day activities got in the way of getting back to the computer. So today I got back to it. I had no problem getting the screw out and taking the computer apart to get to the logic board. I started to remove the old capacitors but had a problem with the soldering iron. I spent most of the day working on this. I could not just heat them up and pull them out. After doing some more research I needed to get a DE-soldering iron. So I ordered it and it will come tomorrow which means at the end of the day when I need to spend time with my husband so this won’t get touched again until probably Saturday afternoon or Sunday. Ugh! I hate not having the tools I need to get these things done. It will get done though.
1.88 miles indoors today. Although the temperature got up to 71 degrees today I didn’t get outside because of some intermittent rain. Later in the afternoon I did get outside and enjoyed the temps and walked half a mile. The temperature broke a record at Dulles Airport when it got up to 76 degrees. Too warm for mid February.
Today I began my eMac project. I am soldering on new capacitors on the logic board. I began by taking out all the screws holding the case on. When I got to the last one it would come out and it got stripped in the process. So I had to halt the upgrade of the logic board and order some stripped screw remover. I’ll get back to it tomorrow when the tool arrives.
Today I ran some errands. When I was bringing the stuff through the garage I saw this bird on the railing. It’s a Northern Mockingbird. He just sat there and let me take his picture. I used my iPhone so it’s not the best picture but you can see him though.
The rest of the day I spent cleaning an old Apple keyboard. I took that thing apart and cleaned every key. You can see how filthy it was. It took forever but the keyboard is like new now.
My Apple HomePod arrived today. I went ahead and joined Apple Music so that I could have access to all the music Apple has in iTunes. The speaker is really cool. The sound is amazing. Ever song I’ve asked her to play, she’s been able to play. I’ve asked her to play certain kinds of music and she plays a playlist of that music that’s already been created. She will also play any of my playlists that I created in iTunes. It’s what the first iPod Hi Fi should have been. She is limited in the amount of information she can give you though. Unlike Alexa, Siri is limited to only certain types of information. She can give you the weather, what the stocks were for the day, basic information about songs, etc. She can’t tell jokes, or play games or anything like that. Maybe in time she’ll get better. I’d say she beats all the competition when it comes to sound. It really sounds great. When the ability to have two HomePods playing the same music is added later this year, I’ll have to get another one. I’m pretty pleased with the way it sounds and operates. It was a breeze to set up too!
It’s happening. The Trump effect is beginning. The country is in the midst of a horrible decline…in every aspect. Today it was the stock market. At one point it dropped 1600 points. The most in history. He’s ruining everything. The Dow closed down 1179 points. The single biggest drop in history. There goes some retirement accounts. I blame it all on Trump.
In other news I have been working on another computer. I got this 17-inch Late 2006 CD iMac on eBay for 99 bucks. It is in great shape. However, when it was shipped the guy stuck tape all over it. I had to use WD-40 to clean all the sticky off it. Then I maxed out the ram and replaced the hard drive with a 60 gig SSD. This one wasn’t nearly as bad as taking that eMac apart. And when I first plugged this thing in it began to stick like Indian food. So while I had it open to put the SSD inside, I cleaned it out really well. Now it’s like a new iMac! It’s fast and clean. I don’t have much use for it though. Maybe I’ll sell it on eBay and make some money. I don’t know. We’ll see.
I’ve been buying a couple of old computers on eBay lately. Here’s my latest find. I got it for $80. It’s an eMac (USB 2.0). It is the low end eMac from 2004. It doesn’t even have Bluetooth. I have to use a wired keyboard and mouse. The problem is it keeps freezing up. After doing some research and taking the machine apart, I find that the capacitors need to be replaced. I’ve never done that before. But I ordered the parts I need and a soldering iron and I’m going to attempt to get this thing fixed. It’s like brand new. There was no dust inside and it came with the original box and cords. I think it was a good buy. I just want it to work. It’ll be a challenge but I’m up for it.
A couple of weeks ago I showed you my new iMac. In this video I show you how to upgrade the ram on the iMac. Mine came with 8 gigs of ram. I bought 32 more gigs of ram. When finished I’ll have 40 gigs of ram. Click play to see the video.
So…I broke down and ordered the new iMac today. It was introduced back in June but then I didn’t think I needed it. I’ve been having an issue importing video that’s shot on the my iPhone 8 plus. With the new IOS it stores the video files differently and has a different file for videos now. For some reason I could not for the life of me get those videos into my computer. It’s called High Efficiency Video Coding. I thought my iMac would be fine with it because I updated to the lasted OS but it didn’t work. I don’t know.
Anyway, I ordered the new iMac with the 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Kaby Lake processor, 8 gigs of ram (I’ll upgrade the ram myself to 40 GB), the Radeon Pro 580 graphics chip and a 3 TB Fusion drive. I’m always excited about getting a new iMac. This one should arrive later next week. Yay!
The watch says I only walked 1.77 miles on my walk today but I got 49 minutes of exercise so I’m going with that. Maybe I should start counting the minutes of exercise vs. miles walked. Hmm. We’ll see. I did take a weird indoor picture.
I don’t know what happened to the Apple Watch while on my walk today but it only recorded 8 minutes of exercise and 1.13 miles of walking. I know I did more like 2.5 and like 40 minutes of exercise. My final readings for the day was 11,065 steps and 4.92 miles so I know I got some good exercise in. Oh well. I didn’t take a picture either.
This morning I walked 3.90 miles at the AU track. The conditions were just right for me to walk that far. I was thinking that I might hit 4 miles by the time I got home but it was only 3.90. I got another cool photo while at the track. I am really loving the camera on this iPhone 8 Plus. What do you think of this photo?
This morning I had an MRI on my right wrist to figure out where some pain is coming from. I had to be there very early this morning. I’ll get the results in about a week I guess. On the way home I saw this sky and just had to take a picture. I think it’s beautiful!
Of course I also walked today. I walked 3.10 miles but it was a little later in the morning. I didn’t take any pictures on the walk though since I had that amazing photo above.
It was cold again this morning but I wore the sweatshirt again and was able to get 3.14 miles on the track. On the way to the track I passed the power plant for the university. There was a pipe putting out all this steam. From the other side of the track it made for a cool photo. Do you agree?
On another note, I’m just sick with the mass shooting that took place in Las Vegas last night. It’s the largest mass shooting in modern American history. Of course Trump is a horrible president and never says what needs to be said to heal the country.
Today was my first walk with only my new Apple Watch with Cellular. Because of that I didn’t get a picture anything along the walk. I walked 3.14 miles this morning. Here’s a picture when I got home using my new iPhone 8 Plus.
In other news, I am absolutely disgusted with our President for calling the NFL players SOBs for kneeling down during the national anthem. What Trump doesn’t understand is they have the constitutional right to not stand during the national anthem. Trump just shows his stupidity when he says things like this. But the bigger picture is he’s trying to distract us from the horrible health care bill going through congress right now. And from Russia! I won’t get distracted.
Today my wonderful husband joined me on my walk. We walked in the middle of the day so it was much warmer…close to 90 degrees. We only walked 2.06 miles because of the heat. Here he is walking in front of me because he walks faster than I do.
In other news, my iPhone 8 Plus arrived today. Yay!
