Crazy Weather

Today I went to a winery to talk with the winemaker, taste some wines and see the vineyards. The weather was crazy. It was 77 degrees in DC. By the time I got to Loudoun County it was 54 degrees. I wore shorts. I was freezing up there on the mountain. The wind was blowing really hard and there was a light rain hitting our faces. The wine was great and we learned a lot about the vineyards but I was freezing!

I walked 2.12 miles today.

Winery Visit

Today we went to Big Cork Vineyards in Maryland. We went there because the winemaker there used to be at Breaux Vineyards where I’m a club member. We tasted all his wines and they were wonderful. I decided to join the club there! I’m going to have to drop one of my clubs because I can’t afford this every month! But we do enjoy the wines!

I walked 1.61 miles today.

Wineries and Friends

Today we went to two wineries and met some of our wine friends. We went to a barrel tasting at Gray Ghost vineyards. Then we went to Rappahannock Cellars and did a tasting and enjoyed some cheese and crackers. It was a long day but we had a good time. It was nice hanging out with our wine friends.

I walked 1.99 miles today. Not sure why I didn’t get to 2.

Winery Visits

My husband hasn’t been feeling well the last two days but today he felt good enough to go to two wineries. We went to Tarara Winery and Lost Creek Winery. Here he is tasting some wine at Tarara. We had a good time and tasted some nice wines.

I walked 2.03 miles indoors this afternoon.

Wine Clubs

I belong to several wine clubs in Virginia. Usually we go to the wineries and pick up the wines to avoid the shipping costs. However, a few of the clubs are down in Charlottesville and that requires and overnight stay unless I want to drive almost 3 hours down there, pick up the wines and drive 3 hours back. I don’t really want to do that. One of the clubs is Blenheim Vineyards…it’s the one owned by Dave Matthews. I was two shipments behind. So I decided to switch to shipping. Well the wines arrived today. Eight bottles of wine! Yikes! I’m glad I switched to shipping. Now they will just arrive without me knowing it. It already gets charged to my credit card so nothing will change there. I think I already have the other two clubs from down there on shipping.

1.32 miles today.

Winery Visit

Today we went to another winery. I was a club member at Casanel Vineyards in Loudoun County Virginia but let my membership lapse because we didn’t buy a case within the year. So we headed back to Casanel for a tasting and to buy a case to get back in the club. We tasted some really nice wines and enjoyed a bottle of the chardonnay with cheese and a baguette. It was a really nice afternoon!

Walked a total of 1.90 miles today.

Cabernet Vertical

Today we went to a cabernet vertical tasting at Breaux Vineyards. We had a 3 course meal and tasted six different vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon. We attend these each year. This one was fun as usual but I didn’t eat any of the second course…it was salmon. It was cool to see our reserved table for the members of our group. I was impressed. This was the first time they’ve done that.

Walked a total of 3.48 miles today.

New Year’s Eve Dinner

Each year on New Year’s Eve we have a dinner party. We invite lots of friends over and those who don’t already have plans join us for a fun meal and watching the ball drop at midnight. I’ve already set the table and my husband has been cooking all day. This post will be updated later with more pictures from the evening. I haven’t mentioned walking or exercise in the last few posts but know that I’m still exercising and getting my 30 minutes each day. The new year will begin and I’ll continue my exercise.

Here’s the table set for the evening.

We had a wonderful dinner! We were so glad we could celebrate with many of our friends.

Some didn’t make it all the way to midnight but those that stayed rang in the new year with bubbles! Happy New Year!

Yearly Wine Dinner

For the last 10 years a bunch of wine friends have gathered at our friend Susan’s house to have dinner, enjoy wine and chat about this and that. Tonight’s dinner was the 10th time we’ve done this. This time we were celebrating Susan’s retirement. Susan is the one sitting to my right in the picture. My husband cooked the main dish for the meal and others brought the sides. Susan provided the wine because she’s got an amazing wine cellar. We all had a great time!

Here my husband helps Susan select some wines for the meal.

Here we are cooking in Susan’s kitchen.

Here’s the whole group about to enjoy the meal.

Wine Walk

Today I ended up doing my walking late in the evening and since it was dark, I walked in the building. We participated in an online wine chat about Virginia wine in the evening. During the day I spent making my Halloween costume. I’ll post a picture of it on the weekend. But I bought a sewing machine to do the work. I taught myself how to use the machine and make my costume. Anyway, because of all that, the walk was in the evening. I walked 1.91 miles. I was just too tired to go any further but I did get the 30 minutes of exercise done.

Walk Free Sunday

This morning we got up really early and went to Gray Ghost Vineyards to help harvest Chardonnay grapes. It was a huge crop! We were very tired but had a good time. Because of that I didn’t do any walking. I was exhausted when we were finished. I considered that my workout for the day. Here is what the grapes looked like that we harvested.

We Clean Up Nice

This evening we went to a vertical wine tasting at Gray Ghost Vineyards in Amissville, Virginia. Gray Ghost is one of our favorite wineries. Each year they have a vertical wine tasting event. A vertical wine tasting is where you taste the same wine from different vintages. We tasted the Cabernet Sauvignon and the Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from the 02, 04, 06, 08, and 10 vintages. It’s black tie optional. We always go with the option. We had a great time of course.
