Childhood Memories

There are times when things show up on the news that remind me of my childhood. That happened today when I saw that Evel Knievel died. Instantly my brain started to provide memories of my childhood.

I can remember being a kid and watching Evel on the Wide World Of Sports jumping some outrageous amount of cars or buses lined up in a row. All my brothers and sisters and I would crowd around the TV to see if he would make it or if it would be one of his crazy crashes. I’m sure a few of us were hoping that he’d crash to see him tumble on the asphalt. I also remember when he tried to jump the Snake River Canyon in 1974. I was only ten years old but remember it well. They build up to that jump was a big waste of time for a 30 second jump. Of course he didn’t make it.

Anyway, it’s sad to see him go but his death does bring back some fond childhood memories.
