Odds and Ends

The state trooper called me back last night and before I went to bed even. She only asked me a few questions. I was only on the phone with her for about 3 minutes. That was it. Guess it wasn't a big deal after all. I will say that I drove more carefully today. I didn't tail gate and I wasn't in a hurry to get home. I took my time.

I got my hair cut after work today. I go to this little shop that's close to my place. There's always only one asian lady there who does all the cuts. Today when I got there there was one guy getting his hair cut. So I didn't have to wait long to get my cut. The bad part was the lady's AC was out. The weather here in the DC area lately has been very hot and muggy. The humidity is awful. No matter how long I live here, I'll never get used to it. I keep the AC in my house between 65 and 70 (luckily my electricity is included in my condo fee). I like it cold. So anyway, I'm sitting in the chair and she puts on the cover thing and as she wraps it around my neck, I feel the wetness from the sweat from the previous guy. Gross. I was already sweating. The whole time she was cutting my hair I was sweating bullets. My face was wet and all the hair she cut kept sticking to my face. I couldn't wait to get out of there. She kept trying to dry my hair with the blow dryer….on HOT! She didn't even have wet my hair down first. It was already wet! She finally finished and I got up. My legs were stuck to the vinyl chair seat and my shirt was soaked through on the vinyl seat back. Yuck. I paid her and left. The minute I got home, I stripped and took a shower. Ah, that felt good. I always take a shower after I get a hair cut because I can't stand the little hairs all over me. But today the shower was not only to get the little hairs off me but to get the sweat off as well. I felt so much better after the shower.

Last night I watched every minute of the coverage of Reagan's arrival in DC. The local as well as national stations covered every minute from the time his plane landed at Andrews Air Force Base, the drive from Andrews to Washington DC, the entire walk down Constitution Ave to the Capital. It was a good two plus hours of coverage. I've already mentioned how I did not like Reagan as a President but tonight I got caught up in the history of the event. We haven't had a state funeral since 1973 when Johnson died. I actually like the history behind the Presidency. On tonight's news they showed all the dignitaries who stopped by to stay their goodbyes. There was a lot of history walking through the Capital today. Margaret Thatcher, Mikhail Gorbachev, Brian Mulroney, Sandra Day O'Connor, Dan Quail, were just a few. There were many more. Politics aside, the history of the moment was cool.

Well the cicadas are just about gone. Their little carcasses are laying all over the place. There are still a few flying around but I think they are looking for a place to die. I doubt many of them are still “hooking up” at this point. The noise is all gone. All we have now are the memories. I'm sure there are those who will miss them.
