I did NOT watch one minute of the propaganda last night. I made sure I was in bed reading by 9:00 so that I wouldn’t be tempted to watch the asshole talk about the state of the union. I just knew that if I started watching it, I’d end up watching all of it and get mad while watching it. Instead, I read some of the book I am currently reading, rolled over, and went to sleep by 9:30.
This morning all of my liberal friends at work were talking about it and asked if I had seen it. I told them no. But they filled me in on all the nonsense he spoke. One colleague suggested I read The Washington Post for a recap….Tom Shales specifically. I went to look for our copy of the paper but couldn’t find it anywhere. So I had to read it online. Tom Shales wrote what I would consider a mixed review of the drivel. I’m sure if I had seen the speech I would have agreed with Tom on several points. One point:
“Bush soon divided the hall again when he said he supported a constitutional amendment “to protect the institution of marriage,” which was a euphemism for banning same-sex marriages, though Bush didn’t mention them. The man who likes to speak, as he did in this speech, of America’s great “compassion” and who has been holding forth loudly of late on the sanctity of freedom apparently believes both compassion and freedom should have their limits.”
This man won’t stop until he gets what he wants. Last week I had a great conversation with W about how all this rhetoric from Bush and Christian conservatives sounds much like pre-war Berlin in 1932. Except for this time, it’s not the Jews, it’s the gays. Bush may use different words but it’s clear he is out to redefine gays in America as second class citizens. I truly dislike this man and his discriminatory policies.
I would say socially, the union is in a sad state.
