Ciinco De Mayo

Today is Cinco De Mayo. According to this site:

“The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The Fifth Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexicans over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862. It is primarily a regional holiday celebrated in the Mexican state capital city of Puebla and throughout the state of Puebla, but is also celebrated in other parts of the country and in U.S.cities with a significant Mexican population. It is not, as many people think, Mexico's Independence Day, which is actually September 16.”

So why is this such a big deal in America? Is it because it seems like half of America is now Mexican? Or is it just another day for Americans to get drunk?

Possible Reasons Why Brad Has Not Stayed In Touch

On March 30th, Brad told me he didn’t want to be in a relationship and didn’t think he had the time to devote to one. He just wanted to be friends that go out. So I said fine. We’ll be friends that go out from time to time. Since then I’ve seen him once. We went out to lunch while I was on Spring Break. We e-mailed and talked on the phone a few times. Then on April 18th, he called to go out to dinner but my brother was visiting so I couldn’t go. I called him the next day to apologize for not being able to go to dinner. He wasn’t home so I left a message. That was the last time I heard his voice. Haven’t gotten a call or an e-mail from him. I guess he doesn’t want to be friends after all. I hope he has a nice life. Here are some possible reasons why Brad hasn’t called or e-mailed.

1. He met someone new and doesn’t have time to spend with friends.

2. He realized he’s straight and is dating a woman.

3. He is so swamped at work that he doesn’t have time to call or e-mail.

4. He never wanted to be friends in the first place.

5. He has been stuck under a heavy piece of furniture for two weeks and has been unable to call or e-mail.

Dry Cleaners

I went to pick up my shirts this morning at my dry cleaners. A month or so ago they raised the price from 99 cents a shirt to $1.25 a shirt. And they didn’t advertise the price hike. When I went to pick up my shirts the asian guy said, “Oh, we raised the price.” I said, “You just lost a customer.” Then that day I got some coupons in the mail for their cleaners for 95 cents a shirt. So I decided to use the coupons and then find a new cleaner. So today when I went to pick up my shirts the asian lady started in on me about not bringing my dry cleaning to her store. Why don’t I bring my dry cleaning with my shirts. I told her I press my own pants and don’t have any other dry cleaning. She started to complain and say she only gets 50 cents on each shirt she cleans and she makes her money on dry cleaning. And that I was getting a really good deal and should think about bringing my pants in for cleaning. I said I do them myself. I couldn’t believe this woman was trying to intimidate me into giving her more business. If she doesn’t like the fact that she is only getting 50 cents on the 95 cents I’m paying for the shirts then she shouldn’t offer the damn coupon. I left there feeling really pissed off. I have already found another cleaners that offers 99 cent cleaning on shirts. The next time I take shirts, I’m starting at the new cleaners. I just thought I would use up the rest of my coupons but I don’t think it’s worth it now. Screw her. She just lost the measly 50 cents she was getting from my shirts. I think that is a horrible way to do business. Why is it so hard to find a decent cleaner that isn’t trying to take you to the cleaners?

DVDs

I’ve been thinking about buying some new DVD’s. I have a decent collection as it is, but I’m always looking for new titles. In the past I’ve only purchased DVD’s that I’ve seen either in the theater, on video, or rented at some point. I have a fear that if I buy a title that I haven’t seen before, I may not like it and therefore wasted my money. I might be ready to let that fear go and buy some not-seen-before titles. On my wish list on Amazon.com I have several titles I haven’t seen before. I kind of use this list as reference to either rent the titles or borrow them before buying. I also have a few titles on the list that I have seen before but just haven’t brought myself to buy them yet. I probably think too much about the DVD purchasing process. Here are some titles I’m considering buying. Some I’ve seen, others I haven’t.
