Green Thumb

I don’t think you can say I have a green thumb but I do have something growing on my balcony. For Christmas, a student gave me some packets of seeds. One packet was marigolds and I can’t remember what was in the other packet. A few weeks ago I decided to plant the seeds to see if I could get them to grow. I’ve never planted anything from seeds before. I’ve always gone to Home Depot and bought plants already growing and simply transplanted them into the pots. So I planted the seeds and a few days ago they started breaking the surface. I just sprinkled the seeds in the dirt, pushed the dirt around a bit, and watered them. And that’s what I have growing so far. You can see in the picture that I have something growing! You can also see I have a planted dwarf dahlia in the small white pot. Next to that are the marigolds and then the other plants. I don’t know what they are. I guess I’ll see when they begin to grow flowers. I hope they do. I hope the marigolds actually bloom too. I have the plants growing but who knows if they will actually bloom into flowers. I guess I shouldn’t start scrubbing that green off my thumb until the flowers begin to appear. And I guess I’ll have to learn the names of the flowers once I see what they are. I need to learn more about the plants I see and those I have growing.

It’s Warm

The weather has been pretty mild and it took awhile for spring to arrive but now it’s warm in the DC area. It’s supposed to be 83 degrees today. I’m sure it will be higher then that. Yesterday it got up to the low 80’s. It was nice but it’s tough to sleep at night when it’s warm and the AC hasn’t been turned on in your building yet. This is that in between time. It’s still cool in the evenings but warm during the day. Usually we have to have 3 straight days of 80’s for my building to make that transition over to AC. I can’t wait. It was a bit sticky sleeping last night. I slept with the windows open but I hate that too because the pollen settles on everything and fucks up my sinus’. Every year at this time I suffer until they turn the AC on. But I know it only lasts a short time and the AC will be on soon. Then I’ll have it set at like 65 and it will be cool and pollen free in my condo.

Secrets

I stumbled across this blog called Postsecret. I found it on Towleroad. It's a very intersting site. People write secrets on postcards and send them to this guy. He posts them on his blog. If you go through them and read them you will find that some of them are scary and some will make you cry. I read through almost all of them and I wondered what made these people decide to tell their secrets. I know everyone has secrets but most people tell at least one person at some point in their lives. Does writing their secrets on post cards and having them posted on this blog make them feel better? Are they relieved in some way because they've told someone? Or does the whole process bring up feelings and memories that they would rather soon forget. I found it all intriguing. You might too.

It Never Ends

Some things never end. Think about it. You will always have dirty dishes to wash. You will always have laundry to do. You will always have cleaning to do. You will always pay taxes. You will always eat and drink. You will always pee and poop. You will always work wether you get paid for it or not. There will always be commercials on TV. You will always need to buy clothes. No matter how bald you become, you will always need to get a hair cut. It seems like there are things that you never finish. Or complete. Yes, you will get the laundry done for the week but what about the clothes you have on. That begins the cycle all over. And dishes. You always dirty dishes. You can run your dishwasher and get all your dishes clean but only until the next time you get a glass out for something to drink or a dish for something to eat. Some things never end.
