Spring Break Begins

Spring break is here! Today I started spring break. Warren and I decided to go downtown to the museums and enjoy the wonderful weather we are having. However, the weather is going to change tomorrow with the chance of snow…albeit slight.

Today we took the Metro down to the National Mall. Our destination was the National Museum of American History. We wanted to see the food exhibit. Warren was interested in seeing the Julia Child kitchen and I was interested in seeing the Virginia wine exhibition as part of a larger exhibition on wine in America. We got to see both of those and several other exhibits.

After a quick snack, we decided to head down to the Cherry Blossoms at the Tidal Basin. We walked past the Washington Monument on the way. Once at the Tidal Basin, we enjoy the cherry blossoms with the throngs of people checking them out. They were past peak blossom but they were still beautiful. We walked around and took pictures and enjoyed the scenery.

After the Cherry Blossoms, we walked back to the Metro and headed home. Our legs were tired and it was time to rest awhile. We enjoyed some Virginia wine for dinner and relaxed the rest of the evening.

Spring Is Here

Today we took a walk on the Glover Archbold Trail in DC. We were looking for birds but didn’t find too many. All the birds we saw were ones I’ve already photographed in 2014. However, towards the end of our walk I did see an American Goldfinch still in it’s winter plumage. I got several shots. I was so excited to add another bird to the list. I haven’t added a new bird in awhile.

We also saw several deer roaming around digging through the dead leaves looking for anything green to eat. While spring is finally here, not all things have started to turn green. Lots of trees have buds ready to burst open. And of course the daffodils are all out looking pretty. It was in the low 60s today but there was a little breeze that was keeping a little chill on. We enjoyed our walk and look forward to spring continuing to get warmer and warmer. And more flowers and trees turning green!

Fall Is Here

FallTreeFall started yesterday at 4:44 PM. Today was the first full day of fall. The temperatures were very cool this morning. I think it was like 50 degrees. It was crisp and definitely felt like fall. During the day it only got up to 70 degrees but the humidity was low and there was a cool breeze most of the day.

Fall is my favorite season. I love the crisp nights, low humidity warm days, the trees changing colors, the leaves falling and all the holidays we experience between now and the end of the year. Mostly I love the colors I see in the trees. Each year is a bit different. Sometimes the rain fall, temperatures, etc. are just right to make for a beautifully colorful fall. I’m not sure how this year will turn out but I’ve already started to see signs of a quick color change. There’s one tree in my parking lot that changes quickly. I checked it out today and sure enough most of the leaves had changed color and started to fall. I thought it was a little soon for the leaves to be falling. The color is almost on track but the falling leaves is too soon. I want them to stay on the trees to enjoy them. But you can’t stop nature. The trees will do what they are going to do with the conditions they’ve been given. I just hope I see some really colorful trees this year. I don’t want them to turn brown too soon.

What’s your favorite season? Why?
