Yesterday I had a unique opportunity. As some of you know, I'm an amateur photographer. I've really gotten into digital photography in the past few years. I've upgraded my camera 3 times and finally settled on the Canon Digital Rebel. It's a GREAT camera. Recently I've been chatting with a photographer who mainly shoots male nudes. He was having a photo shoot on a secluded, 8 acre piece of land that he uses to shoot his photos. He asked if I'd like to come along and practice my photo skills. I jumped at the chance. It was amazing.
The property was a great place to take some amazing photos. There was a wide open grassy area surrounded by a tall forest. At first I was hoping for some sun but as I quickly learned, having direct sunlight washes out your subjects. Having a cloudy day was perfect for lighting. I learned how to change the ISO on my camera to 400 so the images would come out crisp and take advantage of the lighting conditions. As far as I'm concerned the lighting was perfect.
Usually I shoot photos of nature and typical touristy things. But yesterday I dabbled in male nudes. I dabbled so much that I took 271 photos in about two hours. As anyone who has an interest in photography knows, you can take hundreds and hundreds of photos and only come out with a handful that are any good. That's the case here. Of the 271, I only picked out about 20 that I really like or think would be worth posting. There were 4 models and 3 photographers including me. We worked in pairs and solo. These models had beautiful bodies. They all created amazing photos. The majority of the photos were very artistic and I think could be part of a collection for a book eventually. That's just my opinion. The whole experience was amazing and I not only learned so much about my camera and the conditions for creating amazing photos, I also learned a little about working with models and how to ask them to create a pose you think might be artistic. I really learned a lot and enjoyed the whole experience.
At this point you are probably asking, “Where are the photos!” Well, I have several photos that I would like to post to a web page but as you might suspect, you need to have the model's permission to post them on a web site or use them for any kind of printing. One of the photographers had a release form for the models to sign. I, being so completely new to this, didn't have any form at all. So I have e-mailed the models and am waiting their approval. So if everything goes well, I'll have a web page soon to showcase my male nude photographs. Be patient!
