Today we went to Breaux Vineyards for their Cabernet Sauvignon vertical tasting. We had a great time enjoying the wine and food and spending time with some wine friends who also attended.
I Went Bird Watching
This morning I went bird watching at Huntley Meadows Park in Alexandria. I’ve been there many times. I wasn’t expecting to see to many birds since it’s mid January. I was surprised! I found 10 new birds for this year…some new completely!
#12 Northern Pintail
#11 Rusty Blackbird
#10 Cardinal
#9 Carolina Wren
#8 Canada goose
#7 Swamp Sparrow
#6 Red-Headed Woodpecker
#5 Gadwall
#4 White Breasted Nuthatch
#3 Mallard
First Snow
This afternoon we had about 2 inches of snow fall in our area. It didn’t stay around long but it was nice to look at. Here’s a little video I shot while it was snowing.
Dead Trees
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m walking outside as much as I can these days. I’ve figured out a route that I like and it gets my heart rate up without tiring me out too much.
I’ve started noticing people are putting their Christmas trees out for the garbage the last few days. All along my route there are scenes like this one. The poor trees have done their job and they are not put on the curb to die. Luckily the city does a good job of recycling the trees into much for around the city. We took our decorations down on Saturday and the trees are on the loading dock for the recycling.
New Bird Count
I didn’t finish the year with many birds in 2019. I only photographed 28 birds. That’s one of my lowest counts. Last year was a busy year with things going on. This year I’m determined to get out there and get lots of bird pictures.
I started today with a new count and photographed two birds to start.
#2 Red-bellied Woodpecker
#1 Mourning Dove
