Glenstone Museum

Today I went to the Glenstone Museum in Potomac Maryland with the gay retirement group I belong to. I’ve been wanting to visit this museum since it opened. You have to get tickets to visit and it’s always been booked. The leader of our group was able to secure some tickets for a small group. I was lucky enough to join the group.

It’s a cool museum with some great works of art created since World War II. It was created by a couple who want to create an experience for the public. From their website:

The Glenstone Experience

“We envision Glenstone not only as a place, but a state of mind created by the energy of architecture, the power of art, and the restorative qualities of nature. At the core of the museum is a collection of post-World War II art, a very personal project driven by the pursuit of iconic works that have changed the way we think about the art of our time.

The name “Glenstone” derives from two local sources: Glen Road, where the property line begins, and a type of carderock stone indigenous to the area, which is still extracted from several nearby quarries. We hope that Glenstone will always be a destination for all who seek meaningful encounters with art, architecture, and nature—for many years to come.”

I took several pictures of the building. You aren’t allowed to take any photos inside the buildings.

Even though I didn’t get any photos of the artwork, I did find pictures of some of my favorite pieces online.

Jackson Pollock 1952
Willem de Kooning 1956
Andy Warhol 1964

I really enjoyed visiting the museum. They told us they change the artwork every 6 months so I plan on going back again and again.

Zoo Lights

This evening we went to see the Zoo Lights at the National Zoo. I had never seen them before. The displays were absolutely beautiful. I took lots of pictures and even a little video. After the zoo lights we all went out to dinner. We really had a nice evening!

Christmas Tree

This morning we went to the Christmas tree lot and picked out our tree. The place was packed with others getting their trees. They were going fast. Since there is less time this year between Thanksgiving and Christmas, everyone is out trying to get things and get their decorating done.

Once we got the tree home and up in the stand we decorated it. It took a long time. We used most of the ornaments we have but there are some left over for the second tree we’ll be putting up next weekend. We enjoyed some wine and nibbles while decorating the tree. Here is the tree all decorated.

After decorating the tree we decided to finish all the other decorations tomorrow. Maybe I’ll make a video of all our decorations and post it at a later time. We also watched our first Christmas movie of the year. We watched the Bishop’s Wife. It’s one of our favorite movies. We love watching Christmas movies. I need to watch It’s A Wonderful Life next I think.

Happy Thanksgiving

My husband’s parents came in town on Tuesday and are staying until next Wednesday. They are here to help us celebrate Thanksgiving and to visit in general. Last night we went out to dinner since we’d be cooking most of the day today. My husband and his mother did the cooking today. We had turkey and all the usual side dishes. My plate was mostly white. I had turkey, mashed potatoes, dinner rolls and the only bit of color was from the canned cranberry sauce. This is the only time of the year that I eat the stuff. I do love it. We also had a few bottles of wine to enjoy with the meal and before and after the meal. 🍷 🦃

Here’s the turkey almost done.
