Red Headed House Finch

As I mentioned on my podcast, I’m becoming a birder. Today I went outside with my camera and snapped several hundred pictures of birds. Most of the birds were just the simple run of the mill birds. However, I did see this Red Headed House Finch. I saw one of these a year ago in June but haven’t seen it since then. Nice to see it again.

You can click on the “Birds” section to see all the birds I’ve photographed. Of course I’ll update the page with more birds as I see them and photograph them.

New Bird

Last week I put up a bird feeder on my balcony. As far as I can tell, the birds have not found it. However, I do see lots of different birds from my balcony. I know most of them but every once in awhile I see one that I don’t know. For example, the one below showed up today and I don’t know what kind of bird it is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Update! I have found out that it’s a female Downy Woodpecker!

Day 186 of 365

Happy Birthday, America! We got the greatest gift from Sarah Palin. She quit! But does that mean she’ll be returning in the future? She’d be nuts to try that.

The boyfriend and I are relaxing on the balcony. We’ve recently begun watching the birds fly around. The boyfriend bought some binoculars and a bird guide. We have been identifying several of them. We have 11 identified so far. We are keeping track of them on my iPod Touch. That’s what we’re doing in this picture. Did you notice my red plaid shirt for the holiday?

In the process of moving the blog to a new web hosting service, I lost the picture that goes with this post.
