Today I drove down to Charlottesville today to spend a few days with my dad. When I got there, he recognized who I was. He was kind of mumbling/talking. It was hard to understand what he was saying. He was eating and drinking. But he wasn’t in pain. They have been giving him pain medicine on a regular basis. He looks so different than he did just two weeks ago. He seems to be declining pretty fast. I’m worried about him.
I walked a total of 2.60 miles today.
I spent most of the morning with my dad. His female friend came to visit while I was there. She’s as concerned about him as I am. She’s a nice lady but I think she’s looking for someone to take care of. She’s much younger and is in independent care. I’m glad they have become friends. My dad likes to talk with him. They used to meet in the dining room but my dad doesn’t go there much anymore. He takes his meals in his room so she comes to visit him there. Here they are having breakfast together.

Today I drove to Charlottesville to visit my dad. He’s not doing so well. He is starting to have memory issues. He forgets where he is, is often confused about things and can’t remember what he did 10 mins ago. I spent the day with him and he didn’t leave his chair. I had to call the nurses to help him get up to go to the bathroom. I think he needs a full medical exam and find out exactly what is wrong with him. But my sister is in charge and she schedules all those things. He does have an appointment at the end of the month so maybe we’ll find out more. I don’t know. He needs more care and will probably have to move to a different level of care in the near future. I hope he does.

This morning I took my dad to his dentist appointment. After an hour and a half of talking about options for taking care of his rotting teeth, we decided he would have some work done, fix some teeth and the partial he already has instead of having all his teeth pulled and getting dentures. He wasn’t too happy I think but it’s the best, most affordable option for his teeth. I hope he goes with that option. I may be traveling back in the future to take him to get this work done. Take care of your teeth when you’re young!!

Today I drove to Charlottesville to visit my dad. He’s 87. He is showing his age a lot these days. Tomorrow morning I’ll be taking him to a dentist appointment. I came a day early to visit with him and be here to take him early tomorrow morning. It was good catching up with him. He’s in independent care but he really needs to be in assisted care. I hope he moves to that level of care soon.
