Second Day

My second day with my dad was spent at Goodwill. It pretty much took us most of the day to get him in the car, drive to the store, get around the store, get him back in the car and go back to the center. He bought some DVDs. When we got home he was very tired and fell asleep in his chair again. I cleaned up a bit and put things away. I’m not sure I’ll be back to visit. I shouldn’t be babysitting him. I hope my sister comes around soon and realize he needs to be moved to get more services.

With all the walking around today I did get a total of 2.25 miles.

Visiting Dad

Today I drove down to Charlottesville to visit my dad for a few days. I was disappointed to find that he’s not doing anything to help himself. He doesn’t take care of himself or do anything other than sit in a chair. He wears the same clothes for weeks and won’t take a shower or brush his teeth. I think he needs to be moved back to Assisted Living where people will come in and take care of the things he won’t do. My sister feels differently so we’ll see how it goes in the long run. I did take him to McDonalds for lunch. He seemed to enjoy that.

I only walked .80 miles today.

Visiting My Dad

While in Charlottesville we went by and visited my dad. I don’t think he’s doing very well. He’s got all kinds of issues and my older sister is in charge of taking care of them. I might have to step in and start taking over some of the care issues but I’m 2 ½ hours away. He was very confused when I saw him and thought I was my brother. While he is in an assisted living facility, he’s in the part that is independent care. I think it’s time to move him to the assisted part to get more of these issues taken care of. I’m not sure my sister would agree. I’ll have to find out more the next time I see him.

Today I only walked 1.64 miles.

Visiting My Father

Today I drove down to Charlottesville, Virginia to visit my dad. I haven’t seen him in several months so it was time for a check in to see how he is doing. I found that he is doing pretty well. He has moved into the independent section of his Assisted Living Facility. He’s in a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom unit. He’s got lots of space. He’s got the place set up pretty nice. He is moving very slow and sometimes calls my by my brother’s name but besides that, he’s in pretty good shape. I took him to Walmart and got a bunch of stuff. Then we went to lunch. Then to his bank and then back to the facility. He was very tired by the time we got home. We spent the day out and that tired him out.
