iMac Ram Upgrade

A couple of weeks ago I showed you my new iMac. In this video I show you how to upgrade the ram on the iMac. Mine came with 8 gigs of ram. I bought 32 more gigs of ram. When finished I’ll have 40 gigs of ram. Click play to see the video.

New iMac

So…I broke down and ordered the new iMac today. It was introduced back in June but then I didn’t think I needed it. I’ve been having an issue importing video that’s shot on the my iPhone 8 plus. With the new IOS it stores the video files differently and has a different file for videos now. For some reason I could not for the life of me get those videos into my computer. It’s called High Efficiency Video Coding. I thought my iMac would be fine with it because I updated to the lasted OS but it didn’t work. I don’t know.

Anyway, I ordered the new iMac with the 4.2 GHz Intel Core i7 Kaby Lake processor, 8 gigs of ram (I’ll upgrade the ram myself to 40 GB), the Radeon Pro 580 graphics chip and a 3 TB Fusion drive. I’m always excited about getting a new iMac. This one should arrive later next week. Yay!

Apple Keynote

Today Tim Cook delivered the keynote at the WWDC conference today. Apple introduced a slew of new things. It started with a new 10.5 iPad Pro and an update to the 12.9 inch iPad. I’m no longer buying iPads because all the ones I’ve bought have ended up sitting around my house. I won’t be getting a new one.

Then they talked about updated MacBooks, MacBook Pros and an updated iMac with faster processors, more memory and a new brighter display. My current iMac is 2 years old. It’s the exact same model as the one introduced today except for the updates. Not sure I need one but I might just take the jump. We’ll see. I just got a new MacBook Air in March so I won’t be upgrading that.

Then they announced an amazing looking iMac Pro. It’s got amazing specs and won’t ship until December. There is no way I could afford it but man it looks great and has great specs!

They also updated all the OSs. We’ll see High Sierra in the fall and IOS 11 then too. I’ll upgrade when that happens. They talked about the new watch OS and the new TV OS. Both of which I will update to when they are released.

They also talked about a Home Pod…an Alexa type home assistant. It’s going to be expensive and won’t be released until 2018. I’ll have to keep an eye on that one.

Update

I haven’t updated the blog lately so I thought it was time. I took my computer to the Apple Store Genius Bar and they figured out that the graphics card was dead. So I had them replace it. I got the computer back last week and it’s back to working normally. Here’s a screen capture to show everything is back to normal.

In other news, last night we went to Wolf Trap to see Diana Ross in concert. It was amazing! I was really surprised at how good she sounds for her age. And she looked pretty good too. We were sitting on the lawn so we were pretty far from the stage. I took my zoom lens with me and was able to get a few decent pictures of her. She changed clothes like six times. Here are the best pictures of at least four of her outfits. We had a great time!
