My mom turned 82 last week. I was unable to get together with her on her birthday so today we got together to have ice cream. That’s one love I have inherited from her…love of ice cream. We went to Baskin Robins and had our favorite flavors with our favorite toppings. I didn’t need to have lunch today.
After ice cream I told her I had to run some errands. She said she did too! We both needed to go to Walmart (don’t get me started on how much I hate them, they have amazing prices on things you need) and to Vision Works. She needed to get her glasses adjusted and I had to order new glasses. I went to the eye doctor last week and my prescription had changed enough to warrant new glasses. What I don’t get is that it will take seven days to get the glasses! Why so long? Vision Works used to be Hour Eyes and you could sometimes get your glasses in an hour. The last time I got glasses it took two days and now it’s up to seven?! No big deal. My current glasses will get me through for another week. When I get them next week I’ll post about them.
When we went to Walmart she insisted she push the cart. She explained to me that pushing the cart helps her walk. She has something to hold on to. So I let her push the cart. She moves very slowly these days so I let her take her time going through the store finding things she needed. At the same time I ran around getting the things I needed and then ran around to find her and put my items in the cart. I did this several times while she walked a few isles.
After our shopping trip I took her home and we sat and chatted a bit. I need to spend time with her while I can. Once the school year starts up again next week I will have very little time to see her. She really enjoys it when I visit and she always hugs and kisses me before I leave. She’s a great mom and I’m a pretty nice son. 🙂
