Gifts

It's that time of year. The students are beginning to bring me little gifts. Today I got a little clear bag with two green blobs. I thought, cool, candy. I'll have that for snack. I set it aside and began my day. I was in a meeting when the students came into class so I didn't know who gave them to me but thought I'd figure that out later.

At snack time while the students got their snacks, I opened the clear bag and pulled out the green blobs. It was a turtle and a frog. I thought those were odd shapes for Christmas candy. I took the turtle and bit into it. Hmm…this doesn't taste very good. It was very bitter and mushy. Yuck, I don't like this. I went to the sink to spit it out. Along with the chunks of turtle that fell from my mouth, there was this white foam. I thought that was odd. Not only does this candy taste odd but it foams too. What is this? My mouth kept watering and I couldn't get that taste out of my mouth no matter how much water I rinsed my mouth with. It was an awful bitter taste.

The student who gave me the candy came up and asked what I was doing? I said I was eating the candy he gave me. He said, “That's not candy! It's soap!” Well, that would explain the odd shapes.
